People: We are grateful for the presence of hope; grateful for the gift of life.
Pastor:  And when we think of God’s presence in our lives, we are humbled:
People: We are humbled by the gift of grace; humbled by the invitation to begin again each day.
Pastor:  And when we think of God’s presence in this community, we are glad:
All:         We are glad to be surrounded by caring people worshipping our Holy God.  Thank you, God.  Amen

*Hymn # 90 G                                   “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”

Children's Sermon

Congregational Prayer of Confession (In Unison)

Gracious God, we have come to see that our lives fall far short of Your glory.  You have given Your Son for us, and poured out Your Spirit, yet we fail to return Your love with all our heart.  Too often we are selfish and proud, ignoring You and neglecting others.  When we do not truly trust and obey You, we are overwhelmed by self-pity, fear and worry.  In Christ we are given a sure hope and secure love, yet we follow the false hopes and desires of this world.  Father, through the redeeming death of Your Son, Jesus Christ; by Your Spirit, and through Your word, enable us to follow You with joy.  All this we ask, confident of Your faithfulness and love.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

*Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  World without end. Amen. Amen.

Anthem                                               Guide My Feet 3354 B – African American Spiritual

Prayer of the People and The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer will be recited as part of the Communion Service.

Offertory                                             Bread of the World – Kendall/Hodges

*Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen.

*Prayer of Dedication

Scripture Reading                            Exodus 16:2 – 4, and 9 – 15

Gospel Reading                                 John 6:24 – 35

Sermon                                                 “Habits of Gratitude”

*The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead, and buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Hymn # 520 B    V. 1-3                     “Here, O Our Lord, We See You Face to Face”

Go now in peace; never be afraid,

God will go with you each hour of every day.

Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.

Know He will guide you in all you do.

Go now in love, and show you believe.

Reach out to others so all the world can see.

God will be there watching from above.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.

Discord is Destroying Our Church

Oh Lord, an evil spirit has come in to destroy the unity of our church.  How good and pleasant it would be if we would just dwell in unity for that is where You command Your blessings (Psalm 133:1, 3).  Help us see that our infighting is a Satanic tactic to hinder our prayers, get our focus off of lost souls, and make us ineffective examples of Christianity.  Teach us how to respect and appreciate each other?s talents, perspectives, and positions rather than envy them.  For where envying and strife exist, there are confusion and every evil work (James 3:16).  Show us how to disagree without being disagreeable.  Let us walk worthy of our calling as Your children with all lowliness and gentleness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love, and making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:1-4).  By the authority which You have given to us as believers, we bind egos, pride, vain ambition, envy, jealousy, and every evil spirit that is trying to thwart Your work.  We loose the spirit of unity, love, and long-suffering (Matthew 18:18).  We stand on Your Word and declare that this is Your church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 6:18).  In the name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.            from the book, Emergency Prayers by Deborah Smith Pegues
